Weekly World Coin Post: FRANCE



This week we take a look at the currency of France, pre-Euro of course... the Franc. Our Grenouille (frog) bretheren across the pond have a nice long history involved with their currency, to check it out, please click HERE.


NOTE: Don't ask, but in the pics there is a 1977 1F coin from Luxembourg, with a bust of Jean, Grand Duke of Luxembourg.

Not unlike the US "Mercury" Dime (which is really a bust of Liberty), a big theme in French currency is that of Liberty. The bust can be seen on many coins. Also, they like to promote the "Spirit of Bastille." Bastille Day is a French National Holiday. To find out more about its significance, click HERE.
