I've finished 2nd for the past two years, but this year I'm going for gold. Canada Man Turns Hobby into Recovery Business

"Andrea Bielecki was slamming some last-minute flowers into her front garden this summer when she slipped her wedding band and 1.5-carat diamond engagement ring into her bra so she wouldn’t lose them.

Company was coming, she had an eye on her toddler and it was only for a minute.

Then her daughter ran into the neighbour’s yard and Bielecki had to chase her, her mom arrived with groceries to be unloaded, Bielecki swept up some leaves in the backyard and suddenly it was bedtime.

Her wedding ring tumbled out of her clothes. Her engagement ring did not."

"Mog" FFXIII-2 Character Can MD

Any gaming fans such as myself into the MD hobby? Well if youre a follower of the Final Fantasy series which has been around since the days of the original Nintendo in one form or another... here's a neat tidbit.

White's Blue & Gray

I came across this image and thought it a ruse... I couldn't have been more mislead. I've never heard of this little known White's variation on their 5900 / 6000 / XL Pro models. Do any of my readers own one? Known someone who does?

I'd like to know more about it if anyone has info to offer, thanks :)

Clad for Kids 2010: GRAND TOTAL

A message from the founder of Clad for Kids, Brian Duvall:

"Okay folks... First, I have to tell you how proud I am to be amongst the many great people in the Metal Detecting Hobby!!! What started out as just an idea that I had no idea if it would work or not, has grown into something very very special! It all started with a little girl in Kindergarten that stole my heart and made me want to do something... We helped her last year and made her little life much easier for the remainder of the school year, and gave her parents a chance to recover and get on their feet again. The generosity that you folks have shown by giving money to someone you have never met for someone you don't know is amazing! I am humbled by the fact that you folks think enough of me to entrust your hard earned money so that we can help these kids have a glimpse of a better life. So, from the bottom of my heart...Thank you.

I will be giving updates on the families that we are helping and will show pictures of the gifts and such when we get them. My hope is that you feel the same sense of pride come Christmas morning that I have...and know, you made a difference today!

Clad for Kids 2010

It's that time of the year folks. The time when families come together and be thankful for each other and what they have. The time when gift giving is as much a part of the season as the warmth of an open fire.

Unfortunately, there are those out there, that due to a single, or combination or circumstances, cannot provide for the ones they care about and will most likely awake to understanding, yet disappointed faces come Christmas morning.

In 2009, a hobby peer of ours sparked a wonderful movement to turn that despair into joyous smiles and endearing embraces for a number of families in his rural Ohio community.

With a great personal effort, and with the help of fellow hobbyists like yourselves, he was able to raise over $600 and provide new clothing, toys and gas cards to a handful of needy families.

1) Get the current gold or silver market price from the Kitco banner on the top right.
2) Select the type of gold or silver coin you are curious about from the pull-down menu.
3) Input the number of said coin.
4) Click the "Calculate" button to display to total precious metal value in USD.
5) Click "Clear Fields" to empty the number of coins and metal value and start again :)

FOX's "Bones" and our Hobby

"An old man prospecting with a metal detector along the Jersey shore finds the remains of bodybuilder Richie “The V” Gennaro. Maggots are eating the remains at an accelerated rate due to ephedrine in Richie’s system. Particulates of plastic and concrete are found in his skull. His death may have had to do with steroids or any number of his friends’ partying activities.

I was skeptical when I heard Bones was doing a parody of Jersey Shore, mostly because theme episodes can get caught up in the theme and offer nothing to viewers who dislike or don’t know anything about the theme. I, for example, have never been a fan of reality TV. That said, I thought “The Maggots in The Meathead” played the Jersey Shore theme for the right amount of humor. For example, a very good suspect got off the hook because at the time of the murder he was watching the musical Billy Elliot with his mother, going against his cool tough-guy image."

Club Hunt: Vet Park Mt. Vernon IL

"Metal detector enthusiasts may seem like modern-day treasure hunters, but for a couple of local seekers, the best finds aren’t finders keepers.

For members of the Tri-State Metal Detecting Club, which meets once a month in Mt. Vernon, helping people find their lost keys, rings and other metallic valuables are the best-remembered forays, said Gary Easley, a club member.

'I think the best find I ever found was a one-carat diamond ring,' said the McLeansboro resident. 'It had been missing for three years, and I found it in like 45 minutes.'"

One treasure seeker dug up a rare coin on a beach “somewhere” and an old fire extinguisher “somewhere” near his Raynham home.

The thrill of the hunt is the lure for the folks who walk the beaches with metal detectors. Their favorite locations are carefully guarded.

"A new website: www.fielddetector.co.uk launched by metal detecting enthusiast Richard White is seeking landowners interested in allowing detectorists on to their land to register on the site. Landowners can provide details of the accessible land and the fees for access, if applicable. At present some landowners charge for access while some only require a strict code of conduct to be observed.

The site also offers the metal detecting community forums for information on sites and metal detecting news. Founder of www.fielddetector.co.uk, Richard White, says: “I simply want to assist fellow detectorists who experience difficulty in accessing land for their hobby. I am also a fisherman and have always expected to pay for this hobby by way of permits, licenses and so forth. So I am quite prepared to pay to access land for metal detecting as are most serious detectorists”."
