Ring Returned from San Antonio Lake

"Gerald Hewitt, a 1955 Harlandale High School graduate, has enjoyed his favorite hobby of metal detecting for many years.

In July, Hewitt took a drive to Jacobs Creek Park in Canyon Lake to hunt for rings.

'I had just got in the water and that was the first signal I got,' said Hewitt, who found a 2011 class ring from McCollum High School."

Canada Man Turns Hobby into Recovery Business

"Andrea Bielecki was slamming some last-minute flowers into her front garden this summer when she slipped her wedding band and 1.5-carat diamond engagement ring into her bra so she wouldn’t lose them.

Company was coming, she had an eye on her toddler and it was only for a minute.

Then her daughter ran into the neighbour’s yard and Bielecki had to chase her, her mom arrived with groceries to be unloaded, Bielecki swept up some leaves in the backyard and suddenly it was bedtime.

Her wedding ring tumbled out of her clothes. Her engagement ring did not."

Moutain Treasure Club Uncovers the Past

"Rich with enthusiasm, Tom Warne has found not only a fervent group of people with which to share his hobby, but a bounty of treasure, as well.

On a sultry July morning, Warne is joined by four fellow prospectors on the back patio of his Loveland home to talk about the Rocky Mountain Prospectors and Treasurer's Hunter Group, of which they all are members. Some are lively, while others are more stoic, yet all are passionate about the booty they have found over the years.

Both Paul Lange and Rick Mattingly are Loveland residents, while Paul Mayhak and Dick French live in Fort Collins. They are part of the 150-member local organization that has been in existence since 1986."

Ohio Class Ring Found

A nice article by Margaret Hartmann on Jezebel.com about a class ring returned by a fellow hobbyist.

"After three decades, most high school rings wind up ratting around the bottom of a jewelry drawer, but Karen Price Liebisch says she's excited that her class of 1975 ring has been returned 36 years after she lost it at Northwest High School in Ohio.

Liebisch recently received a letter school saying the ring she misplaced a few weeks before graduation had turned up. Earl Corson found it 20 years ago while using a metal director at Brookville Lake in Indiana, but only turned it in recently.

Liebisch said it only fits her pinkie now, but she plans to have it resized so she can wear it. 'It's nice to find a piece of your past like this,' she said. 'It had a lot of good memories attached to it and I am really happy to have it back.'"

Students Learn Evidence Recovery

"When the "call" came into the West Manheim Township Police Department early Thursday morning, students in the Police Mentoring Program were ready.

The high school students, who are part of the program coordinated by the West Manheim Township, Penn Township and Southwestern Regional police departments, formed three investigative "units" outside the West Manheim Township Municipal Building to get to work.

The lead came from a 911 caller who saw a white SUV parked near the crime scene and the driver..."

Scuba Ring Recovery

"A professional scuba diver took to a lake in Minnesota, USA, equipped with a metal detector and managed to successfully fish out a brand new diamond engagement ring.

The story unfolded after a Minneapolis teacher witnessed her ring, worth $7,000 (£4,484), drop to the deep bottom of Lake Minnetonka. Sara Stocco, 27, had taken the ring off in order to keep it clean while she was applying suntan lotion to her newly made fiancé Adam Segar, 28."

Recovery Services Directory

Good morning everyone. Just browsing my favorite MD hot spots on the web tonight and came across two links I'd like to share with everyone... both my fellow hobbyists and those who may have lost something and are looking for help finding it.

The first is "The Ring Finders". This is a rather new website created by a Canadian detectorist who is striving to create an online service directory of those in the hobby willing to travel and offer their skill with their machines up to those in need. In most cases these are on reward basis upon actually finding the items, and maybe a little bit for gas depending on range. As a person in the hobby, I can attest that being able to find a lost item for someone, in many cases a ring, is definitely one of the high points. You really achieve a great sense of accomplishment and really helped put someone at ease.

The second is "Metal Detective USA". It's another site boasting pretty much the same thing. It has directories for most of the US and Canada.

So if you are someone who enjoys using your machine to help those in need, think about signing up with these sites to get your name out there to possible clients.

If you are a person hoping to find your lost ring, or other valuable metal item, please visit the sites listed above and contact someone in your area.

If you are in Hampton Roads, or... in the greater Denver area, feel free to leave a comment here if you are interested in my free recovery services.

Sectshun8 Recovery Services

As you may recall, late last month I was called upon to find a lost wedding band in a private yard. Within 45 minutes or so I had accomplished the task. It's a really great feeling to be able to return a lost item to someone. So I decided I would start offering up my services... free of course.

Sectshun8 Recovery Services specializes in the retrieval of lost jewelry, and other precious metal objects that you or a loved one may have lost. I prefer looking for objects in private yards, but will not shy away from public areas such as parks or beaches.

My services are free, however I do ask that I have access to hunt the entire property, outside of the area where the item was lost, and ask to keep any other items found within... such as old pocket change. Any household relics that are found will be returned upon request, and all trash found will be removed from the property.

I strive to keep my operation as low impact as possible, keeping the property as close to me never being there as possible.

If you are in the Hampton Roads area, and have lost an item and would like assistance finding it, please EMAIL JIMMY to set up an appointment. I am currently accepting appointments for the dates of May 28th through June 30th.

See me on Craig's List!

S8RS: Wedding Band Recovered

Hey everyone, I'd like to start out by saying today was a good day in the day of recovery MD'ing. All throughout the pages of FMDF you can read stories of greatful people who were helped out by a fellow hobbyist, or reunited with a long lost valuable piece of jewelry. A lot of them are quite heart warming. From class rings decades lost, to recent wedding ring drops... a metal detector is many times the first line in locating the object.

That being said... I get a text yesterday afternoon from the g/f telling me to call her brother who is working on a house out in Norfolk, VA... and that he lost his wedding band on the site. I scheduled to meet up with him there this morning.

1030a and I'm off to the house. I showed up thinking I was looking for a white gold band. But he tells me it's Palladium. Well, I have no clue how Palladium is going to ring up on the X30, so my only real option was using AM mode, which would make the task tedious.

He told me the area he figured it could have been lost... basically anywhere 10' past and along the back of the deck, or along the side of the deck up near the house where they are working. Otherwise, he lost it UNDER the house

Well I search all over the area he told me, and then thought to myself... well, I don't know what it's gonna ring up as... I'll post on FMDF to see if anyone knows. I pulled out my iPhone and did so. Then I figured I would just pay attention to signals VERY close to the surface... it would be the only real way to discriminate.

About 45 minutes in, I head up by the crawl space, around the stuff they have out. Right away a very sharp +4 hits... I pinpoint and it screams at me (meaning it's less than 1" down). I stick the digger in and BAM, about half an inch, completely covered (after 2-3 days lost) I see it. Nice big men's band with the marking, "ArtCarved PD950."

It was a great day to be a MD hobbyist. Shortly after I got a text from his wife telling me, "You're the man!"

If you or anyone you know has lost something valuable, and are in the Hampton Roads area, and would like a free search and recovery, please drop me an email. The only thing I would ever ask for in return is permission to hunt the area it was lost, and for the further areas, possibly enough to cover gas. I look forward to hearing from you!
