"Stan Beck, of John Day, shows off about $460 worth of coins he's unearthed over the past few years with the help of his metal detector. According to his neighbor, Karen Chadwick, Beck, who turns 94 in May, gleaned the 'treasure' at such places as the Grant Union High School field, Seventh Street Complex and the fairgrounds, after ball games and other events."

"Corvallis police are continuing to investigate the firing of five or six gunshots near the intersection of Northwest 27th Street and Northwest Polk Avenue at 6 a.m. Wednesday in a residential area a few blocks from Oregon State University.

No injuries were reported.

Corvallis police canvassed the area for several hours Wednesday. A witness reported hearing the gunshots and then seeing two males running away. The two males were described as wearing hooded sweatshirts — one brown and one red."

Oregon School Time Capsule

"Tammy Lindgren and a few other former Millersburg Grade School students didn’t pull any punches in a second attempt to locate time capsules they believe are buried at the grounds of the old school on Old Salem Road.

But after unearthing about a third of the lawn in front of the school, they came up empty handed — again."
