King Arthur... Found!

This article is a Spoof/Satire, don't take it too serisouly... it's a fun read though.

"Deeply patriotic, anti foreigner, anti-immigration, anti Welsh, German detesting, pigeon loving, unemployed London taxi driver, Alfred Boulder, achieved his lifetime ambition yesterday when he finally tracked down King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table.

They were all alive and well. Sleeping in a deep hole near Blackburn, Lancashire.

Unmarried 53 year year old Boulder from Plaistow, has been meticulously criss-crossing Britain for over 30 years. Using a metal detector to discover the elusive resting place of Arthur and his Knights."

Elementary My Dear Hobbyist

I found this photo from the Journal Times and laughed a bit at the attire this fellow hobbyist is wearing while he scours for treasure. It's never crossed my mind to wear a pea-coat, slacks and dress shoes out to a hunt.

"George Edgar puffs on a pipe as he searches for treasures with his metal detector in the 2600 block of Washington Ave., near Grange and Wright avenues, Wednesday April 6, 2011. Edgar uses a trowel to dig into the ground after getting a signal. He replaces any turf he digs up. In this instance, all he found was a rusty nail. However, Edgar, who lives in Kenosha, once found a coin from the 1870s in the same area which is why he likes to search in the park. He says that the most interesting artifact he ever found was a Civil War soldier's identity disc."

April Fools Pirates

"Two pirate ships were spotted dropping anchor near the Valley Prince boat in Old Sacramento Friday morning.

Dan Auldman called the Sacramento Police Department while on his morning metal detecting walk after he saw the Jolly Roger approaching.

'My trusty detector had just led me to a Seated Liberty silver dollar,' Auldman said. 'I looked up at the sky feeling good about my find, and that’s when I saw the skull.'"

Great Spring Break Pic

"'I don't know what it is, but there's something right under here that's driving my gauges crazy.'

No, not really. It's just part of some innocent Spring Break hijinks on the beach in Fort Lauderdale.

It actually sounds too good to be true.

Jerry Calabrese was making his regular sandy rounds with a trusty metal detector the other day, looking for misplace coins or whatever. Then 21-year-old Nicole Ruggiero of New Jersey asked him to pose for a goofy photo of him scanning her sunbathing body.

It worked."

eBay Odds 'n Ends

For the sake of passing time, I found myself on eBay today going through looking at various metal detecting related auctions. It's fun to see what's out there at any given time.

I came across two auctions for extremely low bids on both a Cen-Tech (Harbor Freight) pinpointer and also one of those Autmax V4 pinpointers that KellyCo gives away with their bundles. I've been wanting to do a "Pinpointer Comparison" and once I get five different models, I'll give it a whirl. These two would make five.

Anyhow, these items caught my eye while browsing:

-Lego Metal Detectors
-Green Army Man w/ Metal Detector
-Sterling Metal Detector Hobbyist Pendant
-Gold Plated MD Hat Pin

In Living Color: Jim Carrey + MD

Thought a good way to start of the New Year would be with some comedic relief from a February 1994 episode of In Living Color titled, "Background Guy at the Beach at Spring Break."

In it you'll see "Background Guy" using a metal detector... and what does he find? Another metal detector! HAHAHAHA. Hilarious!

What kind are they? Maybe a early 90's Bounty Hunter model?

Time Capsule Underpants

"When you're sending your child off to camp — don't forget to pack an extra pair of underwear. That way, he or she can spare a pair to sneak into a time capsule.

This is what must have happened way back in 1979 at Stonybrook Day Camp in Randolph, New Jersey. The capsule was recently unearthed and revealed the typical "kid time capsule" items like crayon drawings, a Polaroid of the campers, tie-dyed tee shirts, a softball, and, as a bit of a surprise, some tightie whities."
